2009 December 18th - Project Tsarino

Is an exhibition which will introduce Project Tsarino and its residency, as a presentation of works and documentation made there this summer.
Tsarino has been searched for and found by a collective of seven artists. It is a small abandoned village situated in the Bulgarian Rodopi Mountains. At this moment it does not exist anymore on the official map of Bulgaria. There is no conventional road that leads to the village and it has no electricity or running water. Tsarino has been abandoned by all its previous inhabitants, except for one. This migration happened during the social and economical developments of the late 1980’s, when communism was traded for a capitalistic democracy.
Some of the key interests of the residency are to trade the urban environment for an environment where nature is still relatively dominant and to live in almost total seclusion. Working under these circumstances and presenting work in an alternative location can give us the opportunity to question our own position in society.
Tsarino is a long-term project for future collaborations between artists who come to stay and work independently. Our interest is to preserve the village which otherwise would slowly disappear. The Collective owns three houses in the village where people can come and stay for a duration of one to two months.
During the opening you can get informed about the residency. There will also be food, drinks and music Bulgarian style.
Works presented by:
Daphne de Sonneville, Alper Demir, Taro Pieterson, Plamen Petkov, Rotem Stern, Marije Roos, Alexandros Papamarkou

“What Would It Mean To Win?” is a film based on the recent counter-globalisation protests in Heiligendamm (June 2007). It is structured around three central questions: Who are we? What is our power? What would it mean to win? and combines documentary footage shot during the blockades against the G8 summit in Germany, interviews and animation sequences.

“69″ ( English subtitles)
Ungdomshuset (literally “the Youth House”) was the popular name of the building formally named Folkets Hus (“House of the People”) located on
Jagtvej 69 in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, which functioned as an underground scene venue for music and rendezvous point for varying anarchist and
leftist groups from 1982 until 2007. On 1 March 2007 Ungdomshuset was cleared of its occupants by the police at about 7:00 in the morning,
sparking days of intense rioting and giving birth to a widespread social movement that fought for a new space for alternative culture.
“69″, directed and shot by first-time filmmaker Nikolaj Viborg, looks at the dramatic events leading up to the authorities clearing
Ungdomshuset on 1 March 2007 and the conflict that ensued. The film recently won the prestigious talent New Nordic Voices award at Nordisk
